Salado
Salado is a village in Bell County, Texas, United States. Salado was first incorporated in 1867 for the sole purpose of building a bridge across the Salado Creek. It was not until 2000, that the citizens of Salado voted in favor of re-incorporation, when faced with a looming threat of annexation by their neighbor to the north Belton, before which point it was a census-designated place. The population of the CDP was 4,033 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is home to the Stagecoach Inn, the oldest continuously running hotel in Texas. George Washington Baines, a prominent Baptist clergyman in three states and the maternal great-grandfather of U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, lived in Salado in his last years. The George Washington Baines House is on the National Register of Historic Places.
