Freebase

  1. Psychiatrist

A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in psychiatry. A psychiatrist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who must evaluate patients to determine whether or not their symptoms are the result of a medical illness, a combination of medical and mental, or a strictly mental one. In order to do this, they may employ the psychiatric examination itself, a physical exam, brain imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography scanning, and blood laboratories. Psychiatrists prescribe medicine, and may also use psychotherapy, although the vast majority do medical management and refer to a psychologist or another specialized therapist for the weekly to bi-monthly psychotherapy.

Examples of psychiatrist in a Sentence

  1. Jacob Chansley of Arizona:

I am very appreciative for the court's willingness to have me in my mental vulnerabilities examined, as well as I hope that your honor certainly didn't take any offense by anything( that) I told the psychiatrist. I certainly didn't mean anything personal. I just said I hope you were impartial.

  2. Joaquin Phoenix:

The attraction to make this film and this character was that we were going to approach it in our own way so for me I didn't refer to any past creations of the character, i did identify Arthur as a particular personality but then I also wanted the freedom to create something that wasn't identifiable. This is a fictional character and I didn't want a psychiatrist to be able to identify the kind of person he was.

  3. Howard Stern:

If I was Tom Brady, I would take a deep breath, I’d swallow, go and see the psychiatrist, and say, ‘Hey, I overreacted,’? because Tom put the kid’s behavior out there. It’s really Tom’s fault. And I don’t know Tom — I’m a great admirer of his physical prowess and his football ability — but don’t put your kid up on an Internet show and then get pissed when people comment on her behavior. You’re putting it out there for people to comment on. That’s what a TV show is.

  4. Daniel Smith:

It's an exciting time for this kind of research because it's beginning to have some real-world applications, and from my point of view as a psychiatrist, I think it's probably under-recognized in psychiatry how important healthy circadian function is, but it's an area that we're trying to develop.

  5. Rodney Dangerfield:

I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet.
