  1. Middle America

Middle America is an American colloquialism used to describe either a cultural mindset or region of the United States that, geographically, comprises the bulk of rural and suburban America. This term is usually used in contrast to the more metropolitan areas and, particularly, those of the East and West Coasts. The two mindsets reflect different values that portray a dichotomy in American culture. In regards to geographical usage, the term is not literal because one may hold "Middle American values" while not residing there, and vice versa. Middle America may also be used to refer to Mesoamerica, or the grouping of Central America and Mexico.

Examples of middle america in a Sentence

  1. Rick Santorum:

As middle America is hollowing out, we can't sit idly by as big government politicians make it harder for our workers and then turn around and blame them for losing jobs overseas. American families don't need another president tied to big government or big money.

  2. Chris Christie:

I don't think anyone can look objectively at where we sit as a country now and say that we're better off than we were seven years ago on the issue of race in Middle America with Barack Obama as president.

  3. Jim Jordan:

This is the great divide in America today, Sean, you got the quote ‘elite’ and the crazy left who think that there's no problem having four- and five-dollar gas. And then you got Middle America, you got the working and middle-class American families [that] understand what this means.

  4. Chris Janson:

It's always been a part of the fabric of who I am, i mean, but when you come from a small town in middle America, what's the first thing you want to do? You want to run from there because, you know, there's rock and roll here and there's a city here. And so I went through years, you know, like everybody does of growing up. But, I mean, I always came back to my country roots because I don't know anything but being a country guy. So I live in the country at home. I love to hunt and fish. Yeah, I love conservation. I'm a bass pro man, and I got kids. We like to get out in the woods and water.

  5. Mark Naison:

I'm never surprised at the depth of racism in Middle America, the depths of it are limitless. There is a well you can dig into if you are white that justifies almost any level of abuse that you can direct at a black person that challenges your comfort zone.
