The issue of water availability (or the lack of it) has often been mentioned by researchers who work on Rapa Nui/Easter Island, when we started to examine the details of the hydrology, we began to notice that freshwater access and statue location were tightly linked together. It wasnt obvious when walking around--with the water emerging at the coast during low tide, one doesnt necessarily see obvious indications of water. The pattern was striking and surprising in how consistent it was. Researchers had already identified groundwater discharge in coastal areas as a key factor in the statues placement on Easter Islands coast. In the latest stage of the research, experts examined how the availability of freshwater in certain areas was linked to the methods and means of building the statues. Nikki Haley announced. Since then, at least 60 public Confederate symbols have been removed since the 2015 church shooting, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Most recently, the city of St. Louis, Mo., removed a Confedearte monument -- a 32-foot-tall granite column with a bronze sculpture -- from a park. Complicating the debate for those opposed to these moves is the involvement of hate groups like the KKK. The group is planning a rally for July 8 following a decision by the city council in Charlottesville, Va., to remove a statue of Gen. Lee Park and rename Lee Park. Meanwhile, in April, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu ordered the removal of multiple Confederate statues. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu received brutal backlash and was forced to have heavy police presence in place when the nighttime removals began. Despite threats that people would boycott New Orleans, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu did not back down. These statues are not just stone and metal, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said in a highly lauded speech after the last Confederate statue had been taken down. They are not just innocent remembrances of a benign history. These monuments purposefully celebrate a fictional, sanitized Confederacy ; ignoring the death, ignoring the enslavement and the terror that it actually stood for. But to others, like Kenneth Nail Nail, it’s not about oppression. To us, it’s not a hate thing. It’s a heritage thing and what we like to do is celebrate everyone's struggles : the blacks, the whites, the north and south.

One theory suggests that the deforestation led to soil erosion, impacting the island’s ability to support wildlife and farming, and the collapse of its civilization. When the Dutch arrived at the island in 1722, its population was 3,000 or less. Only 111 inhabitants were living on Easter Island by 1877. Other experts, however, have questioned whether Easter Island ever supported a large population, citing instead the arrival of Europeans, who brought diseases and took islanders away as slaves. I ’m Amalia Deloney. I love Charlotte. Like most people, I want to feel like this is home and I belong. And in so many ways I do, which is why it was so shocking and disturbing when I saw the statues in front of Hot Taco because it’s completely antithetical to my entire experience in Charlotte.

Sometimes I have a notion that what might improve the situation is to have women take over the occupations of government and trade and to give men their freedom. Let them do what they are best at. While we scrawl interoffice memos and direct national or extranational affairs, men could spend all their time inventing wheels, peering at stars, composing poems, carving statues, exploring continents -- discovering, reforming, or crying out in a sacramental wilderness. Efficiency would probably increase, and no one would have to worry so much about the Gaza Strip or an election.
