He's the one who's telling us he's not going to charge people with gun crimes and fully prosecute them, according to the law. So it's just lip service from people like him. And unfortunately, that has real-world consequences, every single police action, whether it's a domestic violence response like this or a traffic stop, has the potential of going south. And if police officers are not going to be protected by the law, if the prosecutors are going to go after the people, then we have to reconsider whether it's even worth the risk of sending cops in the first place.

Mayor after mayor that tolerates this sort of thing, that decriminalizes even minor offenses, that don't believe in putting people in jail – when your prosecutors are elected, who prosecute certain people who are committing very minor offenses, but then allow other people to go who are committing offenses of moral turpitude and so forth, this is what you get, when Ronald Reagan was governor of California, none of that crap would be going on in L.A. or anyplace else for that matter.

Let me just say that New York City has the third-strictest gun laws in the United States. Let's use those gun laws to prosecute, anyone who uses a firearm in the commission of a violent felony, whether it's threatening someone during an armed robbery, during a carjacking, what you know during a domestic dispute, they need to be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And while that process is playing out from their arrest to their trial to their conviction, they need to be incarcerated. We encourage the mayor to speak honestly with people about that and encourage bipartisan support for all of that.

We hope that he is going to hold the newly elected Manhattan district attorney accountable for any failures to prosecute violent criminals and gun crime, mayor Adams has been talking a lot about gun crime. And yet when you look at the realities of the gun laws in New York as opposed to how they are prosecuted, there are a lot of failures there that I hope the mayor recognizes and speaks out against.

Meanwhile, they continue to allow Trump and his co-conspirators to walk free and suffer no consequences for their criminal conduct. That is not justice.

There is no playbook about how to prosecute a school shooting and candidly, I wish I'd never even had -- it didn't occur so I wouldn't have to consider it, but when we sat down, I wanted to make sure all of the victims were represented in the charges that we filed against this individual, if that's not terrorism, I don't know what is.

There's no political will to prosecute the people in this climate. Why should a police officer waste time getting into an altercation when the person is not going to jail because it's overcrowded and a prosecutor is not going to prosecute that case because it's not high on the priority list ? the takeaway is we need the political will, more prosecution and backing of law enforcement.

I’m from the home of college basketball and I’m very passionate, but there is a line that doesn’t need to be crossed, we’re not looking to try to prosecute the passionate fan that is there rooting for their team.
