It is no doubt that biologically important molecules such as amino acids and nucleobase( s) in asteroids/meteorites have been provided to the Earth, in particular, we expect they might play a role for prebiotic evolution on the early Earth.

If you try to envision how life evolved from the first organic molecules, it had to have been a herky-jerky process, full of twisted pathways and failures, most of them must have gone nowhere. But evolution has a way of creating winners from countless experiments over long periods of time.

What they wanted was greener molecules, so instead of building a massively expensive cable, simply put in the solar farm … create the hydrogen, put in the nitrogen, if you want ammonia, (or) carbon dioxide, if you want synthetic green methane, or just straight hydrogen, and ship that to Singapore, because that’s what they’re telling me they want.

Optimistically a vaccine could be created in 18 to 24 months, but this would still be extremely rapid compared to the one to two decades it normally takes, to make most vaccines. Its possible that the small molecules might be able to move quicker. There are some small molecules that have efficacy against other coronaviruses that may also work against this new coronavirus.

What weve been able to do is produce the molecule thats on the surface of the coronavirus in our lab. So the surface of the virus contains these spike molecules that sort of resemble mushrooms and they use these molecules to bind to our cells and then cause the virus to enter the cells, so we really want to target these spikes to prevent their function and prevent the virus from getting into our cell.

In some ways, life can be thought of as the ultimate in chemical complexity, the presence of C60 unequivocally demonstrates a high level of chemical complexity intrinsic to space environments, and points toward a strong likelihood for other extremely complex, carbon-bearing molecules arising spontaneously in space.

The diffuse ISM was historically considered too harsh and tenuous an environment for appreciable abundances of large molecules to occur, prior to the detection of C60, the largest known molecules in space were only 12 atoms in size. Our confirmation of C60 + shows just how complex astrochemistry can get, even in the lowest density, most strongly ultraviolet-irradiated environments in the Galaxy.
