There’s one hypothesis from a prominent mycologist who suggests that the reason the body’s temperature is 98.6 is because that is the temperature where fungi can’t grow that well. And so, now we’re seeing Candida auris and some of the other new microbes that have come up that really grow quite well – even at temperatures of 98.6 in the human body. And so I think climate change, really selecting for these organisms to adapt to a warmer climate, is going to increase the odds that there’s infection in humans.

Artichokes are one of the highest fiber foods, packing seven grams of fiber per artichoke. Fiber fuels the anti-inflammatory and heart healthy microbes in the gut, and helps recycle cholesterol via the digestive tract.

It's hard to imagine something more hostile to life than an ultra-acidic volcanic lake with frequent eruptions, the low biodiversity coupled with numerous adaptations and metabolisms in our sample suggests the lake hosts highly specialized microbes for this kind of environment.

There are only certain things we can do with cattle, we can either ask people to stop eating beef or we can try and give cattle feed additives to change the microbes in the chemistry of their guts. But that's not easy to do for billions of cattle around the world.

As astronauts explore space, they're taking with them a company of different microbial species, and it's really important to understand how those microbes, collectively called the microbiome, change in the space environment and how those relationships are established.

Animals, including humans, rely on our microbes to maintain a healthy digestive and immune system, we do not fully understand how spaceflight alters these beneficial interactions. The UMAMI experiment uses a glow-in-the-dark bobtail squid to address these important issues in animal health.

Look for a number of health solutions, especially those that claim that they can tell you if you are showing signs of possible infection -- raised body temp, elevated heart rate and respiration -- or if you are socially distanced enough, or look at different disinfection solutions for the home, similar to the ones that claim they can zap unwanted or dangerous microbes on your phone.

[ The studies ] would take a potted plant and put it in a small chamber... three feet by three feet by three feet... and they would inject a particular volatile organic compound( VOC) into the chamber... and watch it decay over time, and that decay is what they would contribute to the plant clearing the VOC, that does occur in the chamber, but it's the microbes that are absorbing the VOC, not the plant itself.

It could be a potential source for energy from any microbes, we now know that Enceladus has almost all of the ingredients you would need for life here on Earth.

We each possess a unique gut microbiota but there are common patterns, there are common microbes that are expected to be found in childhood and in adulthood, i would say around 3 years of age we have a bacterial composition that we can call our own. And it stays with us for the remainder of our life.

We envisioned and tested the concept of simultaneously treating astronauts’ waste with microbes while producing a biomass that is edible either directly or indirectly, depending on safety concerns, it’s a little strange, but the concept would be a little bit like Marmite or Vegemite, where you’re eating a smear of ‘microbial goo’.

This( molecular hydrogen) is just like the icing on the cake, now, you see the chemical energy source that microbes could use. The only thing we haven't seen is phosphorus and sulfur, and that's probably because they were in small enough quantities that we didn't see them. We have to go back and look and search for signs of life as well.

We all have bacteria, yeasts and other types of microbes living in our digestive tracts and many strains of these actually provide a benefit — that's why fermented foods and probiotics are so healthy, but excessive sugar intake can throw off the balance leading to an overgrowth of normally occurring yeast and pathogenic bacteria. This can have a negative effect on our energy, skin, immune function, mood and many other consequences.

Fermenting just means allowing microbes to work on the food to grow in it. ... Microbes make amino acids that we need; they make a variety of fatty acids; they also make a lot of vitamins, so, when you have a fermented soy product, you're getting more of those nutrients in massive quantities than the non-fermented product.

Understanding what happened to the Mars atmosphere will inform our knowledge of the dynamics and evolution of any planetary atmosphere, learning what can cause changes to a planet’s environment from one that could host microbes at the surface to one that does n’t is important to know, and is a key question that is being addressed in NASA’s journey to Mars.

In general, many microbes like to 'eat' organic compounds, especially certain lipids, for lunch, and can destroy the bulk of the organics before they have a chance to get preserved, iron can rapidly entomb or bind to the organics and make them unavailable to 'eat,' similar to encasing a sandwich in cement.
