Kim... led her life based on her faith, she was what I would call a giver -- giver of knowledge, a giver of kindness -- [ a ] compassionate person, a strong person who stood by her values. And she was bold when she needed to speak up when there was an injustice or something that needed to be heard, especially when it came to children. ... She was fun, she was adventurous. She was just a true loving person all the way around.

We rise, our backs unbowed, tongues untied, no more standing in the back of the line, feet shuffling, pretending to be dumb so others feel smart; no more being knocked down so others can stand on us to be taller; we are not satisfied with a half-loaf, not satisfied with another man’s leftovers. Those days are gone. We will live like people, not pigs corralled and slaughtered. This is our country; we, too, sing America. White people can go back to England, go back to Germany, go back to Ireland, but we are not going anywhere. America is the home we built. We will honor the pain, suffering, and sacrifice of our ancestors by working to create a just society, by dismantling patterns of injustice. We will not be invisible. We will not shut up. We are the fast train coming.

It would be an injustice to judge someone based on an interview that's being used out of context, they're trying to contradict how John Wayne lived John Wayne life, and how John Wayne lived John Wayne life was who John Wayne was. So any discussion of removing John Wayne name from the airport should include the full picture of the life of John Wayne and not be based on a single outlier interview from half a century ago.

The statement was about social injustice and racism, yet everybody is still talking about whether basketball should be played. He isn't saying that basketball shouldn't be. He's just saying that you should not be taking attention away from what's going on in the country to talk about basketball. Basketball is just a sport, at the end of the day. But what's going on with people dying in the streets, that's something real. That statement, it had nothing to do with sports. It had everything to do with racism and social injustice.

I am outraged by the senseless and brutal killing of George Floyd. George Floyd death amplified the pain, the frustration, and the fear that so many of African Americans live with day in, day out, the protests that have ensued not only speak to George Floyd killing, but also to the centuries of injustice toward African Americans.

Philonise Floyd appeared Wednesday before House Judiciary CommitteeHouse for an oversight hearing on policing and law enforcement accountability. The testimony came after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis police custody in late May, an event that has sparked a national outcry along with sustained protests and civil unrest over the issue of police misconduct and racial injustice, as well as calls for Congress to act.In the wake of national protests and unrest, House and Senate Democrats have unveiled sweeping police reform legislation, while Senate Republicans are also now working to craft their own reform proposal. It remains unclear, however, whether there will be enough bipartisan support for anything to pass through both chambers of Congress. The path to any kind of bipartisan compromise is expected to be difficult as well with congressional Republicans already sounding skeptical of a number of proposals that Senate Democrats are pushing. In Senate Republicans testimony, George Floyd brother referenced the mass protests unfolding across the United States and urged policing reform and accountability. Read More.
