In our constant search for meaning in this baffling and temporary existence, trapped as we are within our three pounds of neurons, it is sometimes hard to tell what is real. We often invent what isn't there. Or ignore what is. We try to impose order, both in our minds and in our conceptions of external reality. We try to connect. We try to find truth. We dream and we hope. And underneath all of these strivings, we are haunted by the suspicion that what we see and understand of the world is only a tiny piece of the whole.

My own view ? I wish there were n’t abortions except for rape, incest and life of the mother, but do I think we should impose that ban at that level here now ? I do n’t, because that is not the national consensus, voters are weighing in in state after state. Let’s let them do that unless there is a really broad consensus.

He’s almost daring the judge, ultimately though, as much as the threats and other rhetoric in my view are far over the line, I think that the judge is unlikely to impose a gag order, given the normal First Amendment concerns multiplied by Donald Trump’s ongoing candidacy.

They can tell this government that this modus operandi doesn’t work. You can’t keep pushing Palestinians like that. You can’t have more than 30 Palestinians killed in less than a month [as has happened in January]. You can’t demolish homes – that will expel families – and [impose] collective punishment measures, it won’t be long before Palestinians say, ‘You know what, we have to also organize and defend ourselves … nobody’s there to help us. So we’re going to do it ourselves.’ When you get there, nobody can put a lid on that.

NIH has been working with EcoHealth Alliance (EHA) to review its compliance with requirements of the NIH Grants Policy statement due to concerns with administrative non-compliance with the terms and conditions of NIH grant awards. NIH’s approach with cases of grant non-compliance is generally to provide a grantee the opportunity to come into compliance in an effort to preserve the research, when possible. This is consistent with HHS grant regulations, which provide that in cases of non-compliance, a funding agency can impose specific award conditions; and if the agency determines that the noncompliance cannot be remedied by specific award conditions, then the agency may take more severe actions, such as terminating an award in whole or in part.

When courts become extensions of the political process, when people see them as extensions of the political process, when people see them as trying just to impose personal preferences on a society irrespective of the law, that’s when there’s a problem — and that’s when there ought to be a problem, if, over time, the court loses all connection with the public and with public sentiment, that is a dangerous thing for democracy.

Whether it's Alex Jones or Rudy Giuliani or a 2020 election denier, it's one thing to spout conspiracy theories on a podcast or social media, but courts demand actual facts and evidence.
