Water ice is, at present, not stable at the very surface of Mars near the equator at these elevations, so, it’s not surprising that we’re not detecting any water ice at the surface. It is possible that all the glacier’s water ice has sublimated away by now. But there’s also a chance that some of it might still be protected at shallow depth under the sulfate salts.

Pakistan is living through one of the most serious climate catastrophes of the world, we are at this point ground zero of the front line of extreme weather events, which we have seen from early this year from an unrelenting cascade of heat waves, forest fires, flash floods, multiple glacier lake outburst events and now the monster monsoon of the decade.

The year 2022 is extreme — not only have we had a very snow-poor winter, we also had an extremely warm summer, and this combination is truly the worst case, we expect this year's losses to be larger than the ones experienced in 2003, which so far was the' record year,' in the negative sense, for glacier mass loss.

If you're concerned about preserving the species, then yes, our findings are hopeful, but I don't think glacier habitat is going to support huge numbers of polar bears. There's just not enough of it.

What's most concerning about the recent results is that it's pointing to a collapse of this ice shelf, this kind of safety band that holds the ice on the land, if we lose this ice shelf, then the glacier will flow into the ocean more quickly, contributing towards sea level rise.

Those areas are seeing a rapid pace of glacier melt that could be fairly worrying, we get this increase in melt and that actually increases the availability of water that comes in these rivers... but the problem is, after a period of time, that stops increasing and then decreases fairly rapidly.

The terrain below where Bunker went missing is near the location of the Liberty Ridge tragedy that claimed the lives of six climbers in 2014. It is very steep, terminates in cliffs, and is known for frequent avalanches and active rockfall, this, combined with the broken surface of the Carbon Glacier, will prevent the deployment of ground teams in this search.

TEXAS GRANDMOTHER RESCUED AFTER POSING ON ICEBERG THRONE THAT DRIFTED OUT TO SEA DURING ICELAND VACATION In Iceland, the iconic Reynisfjara Beach has been the site where several tourists have died over the past decade due to the waves, with many close calls also being reported. Around the same time of the incident caught on video, another tourist was injured when he was also knocked over by a wave and nearly dragged out to sea, Icelandic news site Visir reported. A warning sign at Reynisfjara Beach in Iceland as seen in October 2018. ( Travis Fedschun/Fox News) The entrance to the beach area does feature warning signs that highlight the risk, but officials said the two incidents have prompted a safety review of the tourist site. CLICK HERE FOR THE FOX NEWS APP At a meeting on Friday, government officials introduced measures to improve safety at the beach that could allow police to close the site for five to seven days from November till March every year due to weather conditions, Icelandic news outlet Morgunblai reported. A group of tourists in Iceland were left scampering to safety when a large chunk of a nearby glacier suddenly collapsed into the sea, producing a gigantic wave that caught the adventurers by surprise. Another project in the works is a wave forecast system for the beach with a connected warning system to inform tourists who plan on traveling to the site. The project would also include a mast on the beach with a light that would flash a warning at times of danger, according to the Iceland Review. Icelandic Minister of Tourism, Industry and Innovation rds Kolbrn Reykfjr Gylfadttir has said the recent incidents prove why a risk evaluation of the area is necessary. Its unacceptable that theres a risk of a massive accident in one of the most popular tourist locations in the country, without the necessary arrangements in place, certain improvements have been made, but the responsibility for the case is complicated as well as the fact that travelers often ignore warnings, putting themselves at great risk.

It's very rare anywhere on the planet to see 700 meters of no temperature variation, normally we find colder waters in the upper hundred meters or so, but right in front of the glacier it's warm all the way up, these warm waters now are able to be in direct contact with the ice over its entire face, supercharging the melting.

The OMG mission deployed new technologies that allowed us to observe a natural experiment , much as we would do in a laboratory, where variations in ocean temperatures were used to control the flow of a glacier, their findings especially about how quickly the ice responds will be important to projecting sea level rise in both the near and distant future.
