We believe it's a combination … of the George Floyd protests — riots, if you will; a general feeling of a preference for less law enforcement; and less prosecution and less policing, law enforcement officers have essentially been marginalized and demoralized and cast aside and encouraged now to enforce the law. And so we've seen massive jumps in the homicide rate in cities across America.

I’ve always thought Queen Elizabeth II should be called Elizabeth the Steadfast, i think it’s a perfect way of describing Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth II was n’t necessarily expecting to be queen, and Queen Elizabeth II embraced that duty. ’’ As the elder daughter of King George V’s second son, Elizabeth, now 95, was expected to live the life of a minor royal when she was born on April 21, 1926. Dogs and horses, a country house, a suitable match — a comfortable but uneventful life — seemed her future. But everything changed a decade later when King Edward VIII, King Edward VIII, abdicated so King Edward VIII could marry the American divorcee Wallis Simpson. Elizabeth’s father became King George VI, making the young princess heir apparent. George VI, whose struggles to overcome a stutter were portrayed in the 2010 film.

I think we need to call this out for what it is: it’s a grift, while there are many good people who associate themselves as BLM activists, the people at the top of the organization couldn’t care less. While the people of Minneapolis, the epicenter of the George Floyd riots, struggle with homelessness, spiking crime, and the nation's largest achievement gap for Black kids, the people sitting at the top of BLM live in multi-million dollar mansions, it’s sickening.

As the murder of George Floyd drew attention worldwide to police abuse of Black men, we must also remember that police violence comes in many forms—including through the dehumanization that results when officers treat Black men like criminals. Because of George Gascon's blanket policy against transferring any juvenile to adult court, even if the 17-year-old rapes or murders an innocent child, James Tubbs will not have to register as a sex offender, will not spend any time in county jail or state prison, will be 26 and housed with juveniles for a very short period of time, and will be released with no probation or parole monitoring. The victims will get no justice. The public will get no safety.

I still hope to sign into law a comprehensive and meaningful police reform bill that honors the name and memory of George Floyd, because we need legislation to ensure lasting and meaningful change, but this moment demands action, and we cannot allow those who stand in the way of progress to prevent us from answering the call.
