The thing to remember with Turkey is that the president can not stand criticism. There are always going to be politicians who take positions that are not fact-based but are based more on emotion and political positioning, there are always going to be politicians who are going to position themselves as more opposed to terrorism than anybody else. But their positions are not analytically derived or fact-based.
