Hard times are coming, when we’ll be wanting the voices of writers who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being, and even imagine real grounds for hope. We’ll need writers who can remember freedom – poets, visionaries – realists of a larger reality.

Matching appearances with authenticity isn't guaranteed, as even the devil can disguise as an angel of light without embodying light. Be wary of persuasive speakers; judge them by their actions, not just their words.

I think of the trees and how simply they let go, let fall the riches of a season, how without grief (it seems) they can let go and go deep into their roots for renewal and sleep… Imitate the trees. Learn to lose in order to recover, and remember that nothing stays the same for long, not even pain, psychic pain. Sit it out. Let it all pass. Let it go.

I always forget how important the empty days are, how important it may be sometimes not to expect to produce anything, even a few lines in a journal. I am still pursued by a neurosis about work inherited from my father. A day where one has not pushed oneself to the limit seems a damaged damaging day, a sinful day. Not so! The most valuable thing we can do for the psyche, occasionally, is to let it rest, wander, live in the changing light of a room, not try to be or do anything whatever.

Your enemies will never be at ease, even in your exile, for they fear your presence and the very essence of your being. The mere sound or whisper of your name strikes terror in their hearts. But fear not, for goodness is always rewarded to the virtuous, and karma serves justice to the offenders.

Being born in a divided family doesn't give you the right to create havoc. All mankind has the notion of justice ingrained within them, even an infant, who, while feeding on his mother's breast, understands when reprimanded that what he did was wrong.

The first Nintendo tape cartridge I tried was Ghosts N Goblins. As soon as the game began, I was immediately ambushed by zombies. I'd jump around aimlessly, tossing javelins, but was I'm a skeleton. Dead. It was over so quick, I couldn't even mentally process what just happened.

I'll sing without singing lessons because it brings me happiness. We should pursue joy, not just perfection. I share my love for singing with the world, even without professional training. Like climbing mountains, it doesn't matter if I reach the top with or without lessons - the view is just as beautiful from where I stand.”

Far from trying to rig the system, I have spent decades opposing cronyism and all political favors, including mandates, subsidies and protective tariffs -- even when we benefit from them. I believe that cronyism is nothing more than welfare for the rich and powerful, and should be abolished.

In a future where a singular religion may unify all, a plea resonates: Please, please, please, be discerning. Not everything deemed righteous in the eyes of humanity aligns with the righteousness of God. A time will come when our steadfast faith will be tested, and we may face adversity for our beliefs. Do not deny your God, for those who seek refuge under His protective shadow will find joy, even amid pain and tribulations.

Truth shall always be truth, no matter how much darkness tries to cover it; truth is forever true. He who refuses truth shall one day drink of God's wrath. There is a time for everything, even a time for judgment. He that has ears hears, and he that closes his ear should also be prepared to drink the cup of divine justice.

The fact is that there is a serious danger of this country becoming a pluto-democracy; that is, a sham republic with the real government in the hands of a small clique of enormously wealthy men, who speak through their money, and whose influence, even today, radiates to every corner of the United States.

However, on religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of 'conservatism.'

In our friendships, we often act as adversaries, and in our humanity, we sometimes emulate the ferocity of lions. Yet, we must not allow malevolence to cloud our judgment or materialism to taint our souls. Instead, let kindness prevail, even if the world misunderstands. It's never too late to embrace the innate humanity bestowed upon us and to find hope by opening our eyes to a better way.

A tangible link to the past is going to be lost when the last voices from that time period are gone. So many of the voices that were here, even 10 years ago, to share their memories — law enforcement officials, reporters, eyewitnesses — so many of those folks have passed away.
