I do believe reforms and training can prevent this, but the number one deterrent to this is when police officers around the country see what's going to happen to them when they participate in behavior such as this, and so these individuals were fired. These individuals were charged appropriately for their actions, similarly, what we saw happen in Minneapolis with Derek Chauvin and his actions, and officers around the country seeing that this type of behavior is not going to be tolerated by law enforcement. It's not going to be tolerated by the communities that they serve.

A lot people are just pretty fed up with government in general, especially the Trump folks, biden has got them motivated, not Laura Kelly, or not Derek Schmidt.

Schmidt’s ad claims that he would fully fund public schools if he were elected. We got some questions about that: Most importantly, why should we believe him now? Second, why didn’t he advocate for that when he was the [state] Senate majority leader? And why would he defend Brownback’s cuts to public schools? derek Schmidt wanting to be in charge of education funding is like an arsonist wanting to be in charge of the fire department. It makes no sense. And so while we’ve got a lot of questions for Derek, there is no question about Governor Kelly’s record and her leadership when it comes to education.

Governor Laura Kelly is the education governor, for her opponent to attempt to lay claim to that title is laughable. A more accurate title for Derek Schmidt to claim would be Brownback’s defender in chief.

Recognizing that the murder of George Floyd was likely to create particularly acute racialized trauma, I felt I had an immediate duty to protect and support employees who may have been traumatized and may have heightened ongoing trauma by having to deal with Derek Chauvin, out of care and concern, and without the comfort of time, I made the decision to limit exposure to employees of color to a murder suspect who could potentially aggravate those feelings.

It has been difficult for me to read and hear what the media, public and prosecution team believe Derek to be an aggressive, heartless and uncaring person, i can tell you that is far from the truth. My son’s identity has also been reduced to that of a racist. I want this court to know that none of these things are true, and that my son is a good man.

The core of the problem is that it is not just police departments as a whole -- it is officers who are allowed to act with impunity, is there anything that is a counterbalance to stop them doing the kind of things that Officer Derek Chauvin did ? Liability to the police department would, in my view, be insufficient to do that.

MINNESOTA MAN WHO FLED WITH OFFICER CLINGING TO TRUCK AFTER ALLEGED MASK-RELATED ASSAULT FACES FELONY CHARGES In the wake of Wright's death, the Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously on Friday for the development of a new Traffic Safety Division. Councilmember Phillipe Cunningham outlineda staff directive regarding the proposed developmentin a document obtained by KMSP, the Fox-owned TV station in Minneapolisand posted on Phillipe Cunningham social media account. The document listed four goals of the new traffic enforcement division : Maximizing the traffic safety benefits of traffic enforcement, eliminating racial disparities in traffic enforcement, educating the public on safe driving behaviors and traffic laws, and earning the trust of communities harmed by earlier practices. We urgently need traffic safety in our community, we also need for increasing traffic safety to not come at a great cost of harm to our neighbors in the process. This issue is very complex, but it is surmountable.
