There’s good evidence that screening colonoscopy in asymptomatic individuals at 10-year intervals is effective and cost effective. And I think I’m not ready to change. I would not be ready to change practice in terms of extending the interval based on the study, but it is comforting and provides additional data to strengthen the concept of adhering to these guidelines, the overall message from this study is we can feel comfortable with the current guidelines.

Otherwise, people often fall out of care, or because hepatitis C can remain asymptomatic for years, people forget or are unaware of their diagnosis, and what ends up happening is, they don't get linked to the treatment that they need, and then they show up much later in the health system with advanced disease and complications that are much harder and much more costly to treat. In addition, we've lost years of opportunity to prevent transmission.

Long-haul asymptomatic people are unique in their awareness that these long haul symptoms are not normal and the fact medical procedures and tests do not reveal any issues for people, i hope the medical research continues and every long-haul survivor has the help needed to move forward, such as more clinics specializing in long-haul, medical insurance and transportation. No one should be left behind in the research of all things related to Covid-19.

It's also possible that there's the acute inflammation of getting Covid which may be present in low levels, even in asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases, that can lead to a short-term insulin resistance, which can maybe snowball or set off a chain of events that leads to more longer-term insulin resistance.

There are a lot of studies [from other variants] that show the maximum transmissibility is in those first five days, and [with omicron] we are about to face hundreds of thousands more cases a day, and it was becoming very, very clear from the health care system that we would have people who were [positive but] asymptomatic and not able to work, and that was a harbinger of what was going to come in all other essential functions of society.

With the sheer volume of new cases that we are having and that we expect to continue with Omicron, one of the things we want to be careful of is that we don't have so many people out, if you are asymptomatic and you are infected, we want to get people back to the jobs -- particularly those with essential jobs -- to keep our society running smoothly.

Regular, surveillance testing of asymptomatic individuals is an important layer of protection. Vaccination and testing is enough to replace the need for masking.

If you have symptoms or were substantially exposed to someone with Covid-19, you should go get a PCR test. That's the gold standard, the at-home antigen tests should be used, ideally, when you are asymptomatic and the likelihood of you having Covid is pretty low, but you're using it for assurance purposes.

Although delta continues to circulate widely in the United States, omicron is increasing rapidly and we expect it to become the dominant strain in the United States – as it has in other countries – in the coming weeks, we've seen cases of omicron among those who are both vaccinated and boosted and we believe these cases are milder or asymptomatic because of vaccine protection.

Infection of dogs with SARS-CoV-2 has been reported, both asymptomatic and associated with variable levels of disease as in humans, so using dogs deliberately to sniff breath and clothes from potentially infected people seems a bit of a risk to the dogs, let alone their handlers.

What they're in fact doing is they're de-emphasizing and normalizing the fact that we will see breakthrough infections, that if there are breakthrough infections that are mild or breakthrough infections that are asymptomatic, they really don't matter that much.

So even though there are breakthroughinfections with vaccinated people almost always the people are asymptomatic and the level of virus is so low it makes it extremely unlikely — not impossible — but very, very low likelihood that they're going to transmit it.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that fully vaccinated people are less likely to have asymptomatic infection, and therefore potentially less likely to transmit SARS-CoV-2 to others, we know that Covid vaccines are very effective at preventing people from getting symptomatic disease( and) even more effective at preventing people from getting severe Covid-19 disease. Additionally, as I just discussed, you know there's a lot of accumulating evidence that the currently available vaccines really helped to reduce or stop spread of this virus from fully vaccinated people to others.

As testing capacity has continued to increase, more and more asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic individuals have undergone testing, most of whom likely have lower viral loads in their clinical samples, my best advice is to treat yourself as if you are likely infected after suspected exposure. Quarantine, wear a mask to cover both nose and mouth, and practice good hygiene practices. If you want to take extra precautions or you believe you may have been exposed, get tested for the virus using an FDA-authorized test for Covid-19.

Although not allowed at National Institutes of Health to utilize Rick Bright expertise in vaccines or therapeutics, Rick Bright developed a plan to implement a robust national testing infrastructure, which emphasized the critical need to provide screening tests for asymptomatic individuals and to provide services to underserved populations disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, national Institutes of Health leadership declined to support Dr. Bright's recommendations because of political considerations, plain and simple. After having Rick Bright work suppressed for political reasons to the detriment of public health and safety, Rick Bright was sidelined from doing any further work to combat this deadly virus.

Over the last few months, I've been routinely tested for COVID-19, including testing negative last Saturday, but tonight my rapid antigen test came back positive, thankfully, I have no symptoms and I feel well. As we all know, COVID-19 is a very contagious and deadly virus, especially because many carriers are asymptomatic. I encourage all North Carolinians to follow the recommendations of medical experts, including wearing a mask, washing hands, and practicing social distancing.
