If you go back into the 1920s and thirties, it was Jews that were excluded as a definite category. And there was an interesting study done several years ago where someone wrote to the medical schools of the various medical schools around the country, and they acknowledged the fact that they had limited the number of Jewish applicants that they would accept. So … we totally reject this, we think that admission to medical schools should be based on merit and merit alone. And that and there are plenty of African-American students who are highly qualified and are worthy of admission to medical school, and they should be admitted to medical school if they so desire to enter medical school – but on the basis of the fact that they've achieved what they've achieved, not because of some desire to create some sort of quota system in medicine where every medical school class perfectly reflects the population in the United States. And even if one tries to do that … it ends up excluding many people – typically South Asians and East Asian individuals are the ones who end up getting excluded.

Although the effects appear to be robust, this is a single study and the effects are somewhat small, amounting to a difference in one or two ideas between the groups. How much impact this has would depend on the company : It could range from a trivial difference to a massive compounding effect, i wouldn't want to see a company double their in-person meetings hoping to improve their innovation, if this also means doubling the commute time resulting in less happy -- and perhaps less creative -- employees.

More recently, The Results have come out -- it was a really landmark paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine -- showing that if you give remdesivir in the first five days, during the acute viral phase, before you wait for the door to close, you could prevent progression by almost 90 %. It was 87 % in that study. So remdesivir actually can be a very effective antiviral if you give it at the right time in the right patient, if we can extend this down to children and actually give it to them during the critical time when it can make the biggest difference, finally, we're really opening up more options, because these kids don't have a lot of options.

It has an additive benefit that shouldn't be discounted or looked down upon because an academic study says this won't reduce crime by' x' percentage points, but we know for an absolute fact that guns are used in suicides, in homicides, and of course shootings.
