I think the American people, you know, they're gonna want, you know, that new car smell. They want to drive something off the lot that doesn't have as much mileage as me, if they want me to do some selective things, I'll be happy to do 'em, but I suspect that folks will be ready to see me go off to the next thing.

Dear loved papa, I so much want to see you. I have just ended my lesson of arithmetic, I think that I succeeded well. We go to school of nurses, I am very happy there. Today it is raining and it is very humid. I am in Tatiana’s room with Olga and Tatiana. When you will see Boba, say to him that my hands itch me. I try to breed my own livestock of poetry of earth. Olga says that I smell poor, but it is not true. When you will come back, I shall wash myself in your tub. I hope that you did not forget the history which I told you during our promenade. I am sitting down and scratch my nose with the left hand. Olga wanted to slap me for it, but I avoided the hand. Be happy and in good health. I think extremely of you and embrace you tenderly.

I'm not the man to balk at a low smell, I not the man to insist on asphodel. This sounds like a He-fellow, don't you think? It sounds like that. I belch, I bawl, I drink.

Time is what keeps the light from reaching us. There is no greater obstacle to God than time: and not only time but temporalities, not only temporal things but temporal affections, not only temporal affections but the very taint and smell of time.

As Hurricane Sandy clearly demonstrated, there is a woeful lack of redundancy in the nation's health care facilities. However, take solace in knowing there are no lack of choices in those things the advertisers convince us should matter more. For example, right now, you can purchase at least five different varieties of perfume by Paris Hilton at your local mall so, even if you can no longer find a single hospital anywhere nearby, the good news is we live in a society where you'll never lack for options to smell good while you suffer in pain.

Children are born true scientists. They spontaneously experiment and experience and reexperience again. They select, combine, and test, seeking to find order in their experiences - "which is the mostest? which is the leastest?" They smell, taste, bite, and touch-test for hardness, softness, springiness, roughness, smoothness, coldness, warmness: the heft, shake, punch, squeeze, push, crush, rub, and try to pull things apart.

It seems to me the book has not just aesthetic values-- the charming little clothy box of the thing, the smell of the glue, even the print, which has its own beauty. But there's something about the sensation of ink on paper that is in some sense a thing, a phenomenon rather than an epiphenomenon.
