Let me be clear : I did not misunderstand the Army Corps' recent announcement, i am not'em barrassed' by my statement on it, and I will not be' quiet in the corner.' I am dead set on a high bar for large-scale resource development in the Bristol Bay watershed. The reality of this situation is the Pebble project has not met that bar and a permit can not be issued to it.

Everybody that's been listening to the Pebble debate for 10 years thinks I'm lying, but I've got an ace up my sleeve and it is this permitting process. It is the truth-testing process. I'm if we're not telling the truth, we don't get a permit.

Dealing with losing in this game is a huge thing because even the best, the greatest winners, win such a small percentage of the time, but I have had so many special moments here at Pebble Beach. This was my first event as a pro, 1992, here.

That was a grind. Wow, as you know, Pebble Beach, you have like the first seven holes and you can get it going, and then after that it's a fight.

Gault is the best smoking-gun example of a fast rotator right at the 2-hour limit, it could have been on the brink of instability for 10 million years. Even a tiny disturbance, like a small impact from a pebble, might have triggered the recent outbursts.

I thought in my mind that I had already won it but you shouldn't really do that, i walked up to my ball, looked down at the line and saw what I thought was a pebble. I bent over to get it but it wasn't a pebble, it was just where the sun had burned the grass.

Tiger Woods was my hero growing up and still remains the man to me, when I would watch Tiger Woods on TV in Japan, I can remember thinking that Tiger Woods was so good and so cool and Tiger Woods swing was so pure. I vividly remember Tiger Woods winning the U.S. Opens at Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines. I remember trying to swing like Tiger Woods, but Tiger Woods swing was so good that I had no chance.

If the greens firm up, Pebble is going to play the hardest because they're such small greens, if you're not hitting your irons well enough, you're going to struggle out there.

The years I'm playing good, it seems like it comes down to how you play Pebble for me the last two days, when the weather is good, you need to be able to get after it and shoot a low round. And the way the scores are right now and the weather forecast over the weekend, it's going to take ... somewhere around 20-under par to win this golf tournament. So I've got to look at 7- to 10-under par the next couple days to win. Can't take the foot off the gas pedal.

I drove it well, hit irons well, it was one of those rounds. I have five gimmes for birdies, made a couple of par putts. I was never in any trouble. I can't remember any day when Pebble was so subdued. The whole course looked like a postcard. Ever since I've been a pro, I've never seen it look that pretty.
