We can not assure that the observed comets are likely to deliver material like water to planets orbiting Beta Pictoris, but our observations show that collisions are very common and therefore suggests that temperate planets can be enriched in material trapped in frozen ices captured by the comets when( the comets) are far from the star and later collide with the planets.

There's a real need for us here on Earth who don't work in the space industry to begin to understand how space debris impacts us every day, many of us don't realize how much of our lives are reliant on services delivered from and through space — GPS services, financial transactions, climate monitoring. Our life on Earth is connected to space and even the smallest debris orbiting the Earth can damage and destroy these critical capabilities for some of the most basic aspects of our day-to-day life.

When we find a Planet B, I want it to be a true Earth twin, a planet orbiting a sun-like star and the Earth-like orbit that has a thin atmosphere and oceans and continents.

This evidence confirms that planets orbiting at a large enough distance can continue to exist after their star's death, given that this system is an analog to our own solar system, it suggests that Jupiter and Saturn might survive the Sun's red giant phase, when it runs out of nuclear fuel and self-destructs.

In theory lack of a buyer, so to speak, might mean abandoning ISS and de-orbiting it, letting up burn up like the Mir station twenty years ago. I think it will be very difficult politically for The US to abandon a permanent presence in Earth orbit when the Chinese * do * have a station of their own.

Details remain vague on this inspector satellite, but the main concern is its able to launch small payloads towardanother orbiting vehicle, going by that alone, it does seem to have an offensive role, and this is what the U.S. military is concerned about.

If we stick to the U.S. version, the Russians now have a means for using small satellites to intercept a target in orbit and destroy it, this is a serious capability because the U.S. militarys biggest advantage over its rivals is an immense command and control plus intelligence and surveillance network orbiting our planet. Without it, the U.S. military suffers and struggles to fulfill its mission.

TESS was designed and launched specifically to find Earth-sized planets orbiting nearby stars, planets around nearby stars are easiest to follow-up with larger telescopes in space and on Earth. Discovering TOI 700 d is a key science finding for TESS. Confirming the planets size and habitable zone status with Spitzer is another win for Spitzer as it approaches the end of science operations this January.

In the Solar System's youth, the Sun was surrounded by a rotating disk of gas and dust from which the planets were born. It is believed that a similar gas-and-dust disk surrounded Saturn during its formation, the fact that these newly discovered moons were able to continue orbiting Saturn after their parent moons broke apart indicates that these collisions occurred after the planet formation process was mostly complete and the disks were no longer a factor.

Understanding how volcanism works on other planets lets us understand how the whole solar system formed. So if we want to know how we went from a giant ball of dust to nine planets orbiting around the sun... this is how we're going to do it; studies like this, on rocks like this.

But more importantly, the new images are creating scientific puzzles about how such an object could even be formed, we've never seen something like this orbiting the Sun.

What I truly find exciting is that we have a potentially habitable, rocky planet orbiting a nearby star that is currently very calm and stable and doesn't flare, we're essentially running down the list of the things we want in a habitable planet and checking the boxes.

We are tremendously excited, we have guided this robotic probe for well over seven years on an interplanetary journey of more than 3 billion miles. Along the way we sailed past Mars. We spent 14 months orbiting and scrutinizing the giant protoplanet Vesta. ... Now, finally, we are on the verge of conducting the first exploration ever of the first dwarf planet.
