[I]f I want to talk to someone, for half an hour, even 45 minutes, an hour about gun violence and why nothing has been done to reduce gun violence in this country, I can do it. I’m 65 years old, I’m the boss of me, I run my own show and I can speak out about the need for sensible gun laws, and I can be an activist, and everyone should be an activist before they have a fourth grader killed in his or her class or before they have a grandparent killed buying a quarter of milk, right?

It’s not in our curriculum, because that would be inappropriate. It is a graduate level theory, and it would be inappropriate if a fifth grader was doing that and learning that in school, and it’s been manipulated to replace what is really equity initiatives and teaching students about their biases and teachers about their biases. And that’s what leads to discipline disproportionality and students being treated differently just based on their skin color or perhaps poverty.

A lot of the assignments required uploading documents, scanning things, using Dropbox, emailing teachers, [His] reading level was about what you would expect of a first grader. So to expect him to be able to do that when they haven’t even really begun digging into how to use a computer, is very unrealistic.

The fact of the matter is that when Jason Lewis're protecting the rights of, in this case, a 5th grader, of children, that some of these who should be looked at, and if that takes going to court to make the school districts, in fact, pay attention to what they should be doing to protect our children, then I don't think — i agree with Judge Hand.

What ninth grader knows what they want and what ninth grader, never mind an adult, isn't easily swayed, thinking somebody wants me. It's very intoxicating for any age but for a child especially, so my counsel was to keep all your options open.

It is absolutely shocking to me to find out that particularly kindergarten students (who) are not supposed to have any homework at all ... are getting as much homework as a third-grader is supposed to get, anybody who's tried to keep a 5-year-old at a table doing homework for 25 minutes after school knows what that's like. I mean children don't want to be doing, they want to be out playing, they want to be interacting and that's what they should be doing. That's what's really important.

It's appalling what these huge differences are. Any fifth-grader can walk into your average high school or college softball baseball facility and say, 'Duh, that's not equal.' the coupling of sexism and sport, having this be an exclusionary practice, is still a strong one.

And this is where some of the confusion comes in. Allowing your first-grader to fail a spelling test because they did study is much easier for a parent to deal with than allowing your eight-grader to fail science because he chose not to study and will have to repeat the class over the summer.
