A Greek invention, democracy is highly overrated. For starters, it never worked in Greece. The first philosophers were fascists and, even today, 2,500 years later, the 'cradle of Western civilization' remains an incompetent state. Every culture and every religion of what we call the civilized world carries, in one form or another, a mythos or story about a time in the past or future when humans lived or will live in peace and harmony. Whether it's referred to as Valhalla or Eden, Shambala or 'A Thousand Years of Peace,' the Satya Yuga or Jannat, stories of past or coming times of paradise go hand-in-hand with hierarchical cultures. Such prophecies were clearly in the minds of America's Founders when they first discussed integrating Greek ideas of democracy, Roman notions of a republic, Masonic utopian ideals, and the Iroquois Federation's constitutionally organized egalitarian society, which was known to Jefferson, Washington, Adams, and Franklin. The creation of the United States of America brought into the world a dramatic new experiment in how people could live together in a modern state.

The very best parts of Greek life -- creating a social experience and giving back to the community -- are really positive, but not enough to outweigh student deaths, in my opinion, the current system is not sustainable in the next 20 years unless colleges and universities, as well as students, do some things to fix it.

The most popular Greek word for 'minister' is diakonos, which means, 'a servant,' or 'one who executes the command of another.' The other Greek word used is hyperetes, which literally means, 'the under-rower,' or the subordinate who is doing the rowing of a boat. Thus, a minister works for both God and man in service. Just as Jesus was a servant to both God and man, so should all believers be.
