We're dealing with more extreme weather events which means more extreme droughts, more extreme heat when we get into those phases which leads into things like bug kill with our trees and types of things that make our forests more susceptible to burn. There are a lot of things at play here that have brought us to this point of these significant wildfire years.

It's incredibly important with climate change, that we get into these forests and start doing the fitting and harvest and prescriptive burning, so that we can create healthier landscapes that are more resilient, for wildfire.

This hits really close to home for me, i represent Paradise, a town that was decimated by a wildfire in 2018. We have kept saying that we need to put more investment into fuel reduction. These fuels have built up in our forests over the decades, mostly because we've got rid of any kind of forestry management in California. The governor keeps telling everybody that he's putting all kinds of money into wildfire prevention. And as it turns out, it's been a fraction of what he's been stating to the California public.

The new law does not resolve conflicts, as it continues to treat people who depend on the forests as criminals, denying forest dwellers land rights deprives them of their livelihood, their tradition and dignity, while these parks are opened up for city dwellers and tourists to enjoy.

At the same time, the post-fire climate is making it increasingly difficult for seedlings to establish and survive, further reducing the potential for forests to return to their pre-fire condition.

As more area burns at high severity, the likelihood of conversion to different forest types or even to non-forest increases, at the same time, the post-fire climate is making it increasingly difficult for seedlings to establish and survive, further reducing the potential for forests to return to their pre-fire condition.

I was surprised that immediate habitat didn't have much of an effect -- mosquitoes in forests and nearby towns had similar behavior, we thought that maybe moving into human landscapes would be a key driver of attraction to human hosts. But it seems like mosquitoes fly back and forth too readily between these habitats for their behavior to diverge in many cases.

When you think about it, this may actually make a lot of sense, if you are a nodosaur, you can only feed close to the ground. This new growth will also be more palatable and has a higher nutrient content than established growth [ like conifers ]. As a result, many large mammal herbivores we are familiar with today will seek out recently burned areas in both grasslands and forests, as they provide unique feeding opportunities.

To see the forests growing to see that were actually doing some good is a very rewarding thing. A very satisfying thing, knowing which trees to plant is actually harder than youd think. We plant about three million seedlings per year in Iceland. Most people have simply, until now, you use what you have. Here in Iceland, its the native birch. [You] plant them and you expect that they grow. And then, the climate changes.
