Almost all related to the social disadvantageous conditions that some people of color find themselves in from birth regarding availability of an adequate diet, access to health care and the undeniable effects of racism in our society, let us promise ourselves that our corporate memory of this tragic reality -- that an infectious disease disparately hospitalized and kills people of color -- does not fade after we return to some form of normality. Righting this wrong will take a decadeslong commitment. I strongly urge you to be part of that commitment.

But this gives us hope, this lets us know that there is change on the way if we keep pressing and mashing the gas for people in leadership to pass laws. We need police reform. There's no way the color of your skin or your race dictates how you are policed when in police custody. That's absolutely unacceptable.

This offensive legislation pretends skin color has never mattered in our country. As far too many Americans know, race-based oppression, discrimination and inequality has been a fact of life since before the dawn of our nation, our children deserve to learn the full story and truth of our people — the victories and the struggles. Unfortunately, the controlling party is attempting to erase historical fact in favor [of] whitewashed falsehoods.

I understand the victim-oppression world and White supremacy -- because I am White -- that have wronged people of color for hundreds of years, but in the classroom, we need to be really careful with how we present information.

It concerns me that some of the literature -- the point is to divide and point out that those who are White are the oppressors in a worldwide and American context and [Black and Indigenous people of color] have been the victims of our oppression, with what's going on in America right now ... we better do it right, and we better do it with conversations with the public ... rather than do things that look like they're being intentionally hidden fromthe public.

The George Floyd murder hearing and a lot of these other day-to-day issues that greatly affect communities of color whether or not they wear a uniform or work for DoD are vitally important for us to understand. If we're going to be strong teammates we have to ensure that we're being proper allies for those individuals going through a lot of difficult times within their own communities, so having an education and training line of effort that helps us better understand these gray areas and what we need to do to help address a lot of these issues is going to be of vital importance for us.

Not only is Ms. Gupta the first woman of color to ever be nominated to the position, she is the first civil rights attorney ever to be nominated to the position, the third-ranking official in the Justice Department, that's shocking, really. We never have had a former civil rights attorney serving in such a prominent serving in such a position of prominence at Justice Department. In that sense alone, Ms. Gupta would bring a long overdue perspective to our federal law enforcement agency.

( In South Florida) the problem with white Democrats is they tend to live near white Republicans, sometimes in the same house, so unless you're gerrymandering down somebody's bed... South Florida's really hard to gerrymander white Democrats when there aren't that many of them, south Florida's much more efficient because of residential segregation to target communities of color. And so you really can't politically gerrymander in South Florida without targeting communities of color, which gets you right into race based claims.

There's no way for a White man in America could understand the feelings that people of color have about these really important issues, i think all of this will be resolved in the courts quite frankly and then if the courts don't overturn Senate Bill 202, and I'm not sure that there's a great chance of them overturning the law. Then maybe the ballot box will do that some day.
