Wikipedia

  1. Yassa

Yassa (alternatively: Yasa, Yasaq, Jazag, Zasag, Mongolian: Их засаг, Ikh Zasag) was the oral law code of the Mongols declared in public in Bukhara by Genghis Khan de facto law of the Mongol Empire even though the "law" was kept secret and never made public. The Yassa seems to have its origin as wartime decrees, which were later codified and expanded to include cultural and lifestyle conventions. By keeping the Yassa secret, the decrees could be modified and used selectively. It is believed that the Yassa was supervised by Genghis Khan himself and his stepbrother Shikhikhutag, then the high judge (in Mongolian: улсын их заргач) of the Mongol Empire. Genghis Khan appointed his second son, Chagatai (later Chagatai Khan), to oversee the laws' execution.

Wikidata

  1. Yassa

Yassa was a secret written code of law created by Genghis Khan. It was the principal law under the Mongol Empire even though no copies were made available. Most of this law was supervised by Genghis Khan himself and his stepbrother Shihihutag who was then high judge of Mongol Empire. Genghis Khan appointed his harshest son Chagatai to oversee the execution of it. It is unclear if it was not made secret once generally not followed. The original Yassa seems to have been issued in the form of decrees which also were issued in wartime in regard of the opposition to the Mongols including in the cities, "biliqs"/"biliks".
