  1. When the Lights Go Out

When the Lights Go Out is the second single released from British group Fives debut studio album (music), Five. It was released in early 1998. The song was co-written by Eliot Kennedy, Tim Lever and Mike Percy (from the band Dead or Alive), and John McLaughlin. It was co-produced by Eliot Kennedy, Tim Lever and Mike Percy. "When the Lights Go Out" is the band's only top ten hit in the United States. An alternate version of the song, in which J Brown's rap is replaced by Abs Breen's rap, was made especially for the US release; there are separate videos for each version. Five's biggest hit to date internationally, "When the Lights Go Out" is considered somewhat to be their debut single in most countries (except in the UK), peaking at number two in Australia, reaching the Top 30 in the US on 23 June 1998 and eventually spending seven nonconsecutive weeks at its peak of number 10, starting 21 July 1998. The song also spent six months on the US Billboard Hot 100, and sold 800,000 copies in the US alone.

Examples of when the lights go out in a Sentence

  1. Jean Baudrillard:

The skylines lit up at dead of night, the air-conditioning systems cooling empty hotels in the desert, and artificial light in the middle of the day all have something both demented and admirable about them the mindless luxury of a rich civilization, and yet of a civilization perhaps as scared to see the lights go out as was the hunter in his primitive night.

  2. Giovanni Rocco:

The simple rumors of what happened with Jimmy Hoffa and then being in jail and Jimmy Hoffa taking Jimmy Hoffa pension away. That's a huge pension for a guy like Tony Pro, you know, to lose. That's everything for him, having knowing the intimate details on my end of how it takes place and how do you want me to let you know ? You know, a simple phone call, it could be a simple phone call. Or it could be if I hate you that much, I want to see it. Better yet, I want to be the guy to do it. Better yet, I want to be there. I want to watch him. Better yet, when you do it, I want him to be looking in my eyes. I want his soul to be looking at me when the lights go out. That's the mentality of these guys.

  3. Doug Gray:

We've sung a ton of records and when we get up on stage and all the lights go out, I have to admit that I am completely blinded by the audience because that audience is what's telling me what to do, i'm a puppet and a lot of people think that's an insult, but it's not. I'm a puppet to what the audience wants to hear.
