Portugal was represented by Fernando Tordo, with the song "Tourada", at the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 7 April in Luxembourg City. "Tourada" was chosen as the Portuguese entry at the Grande Prémio TV da Canção Portuguesa on 26 February.

"Tourada" was the Portuguese entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1973, performed in Portuguese by Fernando Tordo. The song features the metaphor of a bullfight, comparing it either with the autocratic regime in Portugal at the time or with the culture of materialism. The song was performed third on the night, following Belgium's Nicole & Hugo with "Baby, Baby" and preceding Germany's Gitte with "Junger Tag". At the close of voting, it had received 80 points, placing 10th in a field of 17. It was succeeded as Portuguese representative at the 1974 Contest by Paulo de Carvalho with "E depois do adeus".
