  1. The Source

The Source is a United States-based, monthly full-color magazine covering hip-hop music, politics, and culture, founded in 1988. It is the world's second longest running rap periodical, behind United Kingdom-based publication Hip Hop Connection. The Source was founded as a newsletter in 1988.

Rap Dictionary

  1. the sourcenoun

The Source is a Hip Hop magazine that has had a fall in integrity in recent years. It was co-owned by David Mays and Benzino, and that meant that Benzino's petty beef with Eminem was put into the articles. Benzino's small time career was promoted with two page advertisements for anything he has a part in. While it pretends that it has no competition, rival magazines XXL and VIBE are quickly gaining ground, which may well have had something to do with Mays and Benzino being sent packing in late 2005 by the rest of the magazine's staff, who editorialized an apology for all of the numerous transgressions of perps who had run it into the ground. Untold street cred was lost due to the sleazy maneuvers of Mays/Benzino, whether the mag can regain its cred remains to be seen...

For a franchise system, local is very hard, i’d love to tell you everything we serve is locally grown, but that’s not true for us or any competitor. We do source high-quality local products when we can. But the truth is, in a place like New Jersey, where I’m based, the growing season is really short. I think the important thing for most consumers is knowing where their food is coming from. There’s nothing wrong with produce being from the San Joaquin Valley. All food goes from farm to table; consumers just want to know that the people who grew it cared about it the way they do.
