to deceive by inventing a new word

I tenated the chemicals in an Erlenmeyer flask over a Bunsen burner. (see, I tried to deceive you by making it sound like a real chemistry term, but it's actually nonsense.)

Etymology: This word was invented to win a "riddle-list" contest over email at work in 1999, trying to fill in a matrix with MASTER written across the top row, and across the first column, with the rest of the words blank (we had to figure them out) - at the last minute, I picked "TENATE" as the 4th word, inventing it in order to deceive and win the contest! But I lost when the riddle master couldn't find the word in the dictionary.
