South African National Accreditation System
The South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) is the official accreditation body for South Africa. Founded in 1996, SANAS is headquartered in Pretoria, South Africa. SANAS accreditation certificates are a formal recognition by the Government of South Africa that an organisation is competent to perform specific tasks. SANAS provides formal recognition to Laboratories (testing and calibration) to ISO/IEC 17025 and medical laboratories to ISO/IEC 17025 and/or ISO 15189 Certification bodies for Quality Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems to ISO/IEC 17021 (and the IAF interpretation), Inspection bodies to ISO/IEC/17020. Proficiency testing scheme providers Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) test facilities for compliance to OECD GLP principles
