  1. Side Show

Side Show is a musical by Bill Russell and Henry Krieger based on the lives of Daisy and Violet Hilton, a circus act of conjoined twins who became famous stage performers in the 1930s. The show starred Alice Ripley as Violet and Emily Skinner as Daisy. It opened on Broadway on October 16, 1997, and ran for 91 performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Despite receiving some positive reviews, the show closed on January 4, 1998. It was later nominated for four Tony Awards in 1998. Although Side Show won none of these awards, it was the first and only time that two actresses were co-nominated for Best Actress in a Musical as a team. At the Tony Awards ceremony, the two stars performed the show's most popular number, "I Will Never Leave You". Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner later released two albums of duets, as well as a live recording of their 2006 reunion concert. Other members of the cast who have gone on to successful endeavors on Broadway include Jeff McCarthy, Hugh Panaro, Norm Lewis and J. Robert Spencer.

Examples of side show in a Sentence

  1. Bill Miller:

This theory accepts that the Darwinism that is fundamentally based on entire organisms in competition with each other is incomplete, the real narrative that really counts is unseen to our eyes. You have two moose locking horns over a female. It seems like that is the full depiction of the story of evolution, right there. It’s really just a side show. The real narrative is immunology, the cellular dynamics within the organisms, the collaborative relationships between all of our cells. These cells have their own cognitive capacity, with the linkages and partnerships between microbes.

  2. Dan Gerstein:

It affects her aide, it’s an indirect negative, and therefore the press finds it more interesting than the public does. I’m not trying to say it’s a positive by any means. Clinton has much bigger issues affecting her campaign than a side show like this.
