Wikidata

  1. Shiru

"Shiru" was the Israeli entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1993, performed in Hebrew and English by Sarah'le Sharon & The Shiru Group. The song is about the power of song itself, which is said to be "all we have". The bridge of the song is performed in English, marking the second occasion, after its 1992 entry, on which the Israeli Contest entry had featured any language apart from Hebrew. The song was performed twenty-fourth on the night, following Cyprus' Kyriakos Zimboulakis and Dimos van Beke with "Mi Stamatas" and preceding Norway's Silje Vige with "Alle mine tankar". At the close of voting, it had received 4 points, placing 24th in a field of 25 - Israel's worst finish at the time. Due to the rapidly expanding Contest, entry to the 1994 contest was restricted to the 18 top entrants at the 1993 edition, a group which did not include Israel. As the country broadcast the Contest live, they were re-admitted to the fold the next year. Thus, the song was succeeded as Israeli representative at the 1995 Contest by Liora with "Amen".
