Sheerwater
Sheerwater is a large housing estate in the Borough of Woking in Surrey, England, located between West Byfleet and Woking. Its border to the north is defined by the Basingstoke Canal and to the south by the South Western Main Line railway line. An iPetition was started in Aug 2012 to build a railway station to serve Sheerwater with a suggested location at the southern entry of the estate. Sheerwater was designed as a new neighbourhood by the London County Council, with nearly 1,300 homes built in the early 1950s and over 5,000 people settling in the Borough. There is one pub in Sheerwater, The Birch and Pines. The main through road on the estate is Albert Drive which splits into two short one-way streets at the southwest end. On Dartmouth Avenue there is a parade of shops which include two convenience stores, takeaways and a glass/glazing business. The only church in the estate is also on Dartmouth Avenue. Bishop David Brown School is located in Sheerwater. A notable former resident of Sheerwater is Bruce Foxton who together with other pupils of the then Sheerwater Comprehensive formed The Jam.
