Puppy
A puppy is a juvenile dog. Some puppies may weigh 1–3 lb, while larger ones can weigh up to 15–23 lb. All healthy puppies grow quickly after birth. A puppy's coat color may change as the puppy grows older, as is commonly seen in breeds such as the Yorkshire Terrier. In vernacular English, puppy refers specifically to dogs while pup may often be used for other mammals such as seals, giraffes, guinea pigs, or even rats.

In some ways, there's a big debate about whether you should adopt a puppy or an older dog, and there are advantages to both. If you adopt a puppy, you've got to housebreak, you have to train, et cetera. On the other hand, you get to mold that dog a little bit more, when you adopt an adult dog, you're getting a package you don't necessarily know what's inside, but you don't have to house train and so forth, and a lot of shelters have the previous owner write up a detailed account of that dog.
We are driving to pick up our puppy - we will meet the new member of our family for a first time, it's a date!
Then drink, puppy, drink, and let ev'ry puppy drink, That is old enough to lap and to swallow; For he'll grow into a hound, so we'll pass the bottle round, And merrily we'll whoop and we'll holloa.
