The drink itself is pinkish-purple in colour, and has an unusual taste halfway between Several fruit Berries and Creaming Soda, . It is highly sweetened, containing 16g of sugar per 100 ml and it is very much dependent on artificial colourings and flavours. Sold by the Coca-Cola Company in Sri Lanka, it is very popular soft drink among the teenagers in Sri Lanka due to its native flavour and amount of sugar content. At present portello is sold under Fanta brand. It is also sold in Australia under a variety of brand names such as Schweppes. In South Australia it has been manufactured since the late 19th century by local brands such as Woodroofe to many small family breweries such as F.C. Grubb.
