Wikidata

  1. Philadelphia chromosome

Philadelphia chromosome or Philadelphia translocation is a specific chromosomal abnormality that is associated with chronic myelogenous leukemia. It is the result of a reciprocal translocation between chromosome 9 and 22, and is specifically designated t. The presence of this translocation is a highly sensitive test for CML, since 95% of people with CML have this abnormality. However, the presence of the Philadelphia chromosome is not sufficiently specific to diagnose CML, since it is also found in acute lymphoblastic leukemia and occasionally in acute myelogenous leukemia.

U.S. National Library of Medicine

  1. Philadelphia Chromosome

An aberrant form of human CHROMOSOME 22 characterized by translocation of the distal end of chromosome 9 from 9q34, to the long arm of chromosome 22 at 22q11. It is present in the bone marrow cells of 80 to 90 per cent of patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia (LEUKEMIA, MYELOGENOUS, CHRONIC, BCR-ABL POSITIVE).
