    Interrogation using torture is a neobarbaric practice sometimes rationalized as essential to fighting terrorism.

    Etymology: “Barbarikos”in ancient Greek referred to all non-Greek-speaking peoples, lumped together as uncivilized. Neo (“new”) is a reference to the resurgence of savage cruelty in modern societies, ironically rationalized as essential to preserving a particular ideology, cause or social order.
