Wikipedia

  1. monuments

A monument is a type of structure that was explicitly created to commemorate a person or event, or which has become relevant to a social group as a part of their remembrance of historic times or cultural heritage, due to its artistic, historical, political, technical or architectural importance. Some of the first monuments were dolmens or menhirs, megalithic constructions built for religious or funerary purposes. Examples of monuments include statues, (war) memorials, historical buildings, archaeological sites, and cultural assets. If there is a public interest in its preservation, a monument can for example be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Some people have taken these false doctrines to heart. The rioters pulling down statues thus see nothing wrong with desecrating monuments to those who fought for Unalienable Rights -- from our founding to the present day, this is a dark vision of America's birth. I reject it. It's a disturbed reading of our history. It's a slander on our great people.

I am for those tiny, invisible loving human forces that work from individual to individual, creeping through the crannies of the world like so many rootlets, or like the capilillary oozing of water, yet which if you give them time, will rend the hardest monuments of man's pride.

From picturesque lakes and lush forests to historical monuments and rugged landscapes, the National Parks provide an unforgettable experience for every type of traveler. we want travelers from all over the world to expand their view of United States beyond our bustling urban environments and really become synonymous with natural beauty, rich history and breaking adventure.

I will say that it is important to maintain our history and that when we go and start changing monuments and street names that were named after famous Atlantans, famous Georgians, famous Southerners and in some circumstances... famous Americans... you are robbing the next generations of what actually transpired, and it's very serious. It's a very serious offense.
