Wikipedia

  1. microchip

An integrated circuit or monolithic integrated circuit (also referred to as an IC, a chip, or a microchip) is a set of electronic circuits on one small flat piece (or "chip") of semiconductor material, usually silicon. Large numbers of miniaturized transistors and other electronic components are integrated together on the chip. This results in circuits that are orders of magnitude smaller, faster, and less expensive than those constructed of discrete components, allowing a large transistor count. The IC's mass production capability, reliability, and building-block approach to integrated circuit design has ensured the rapid adoption of standardized ICs in place of designs using discrete transistors. ICs are now used in virtually all electronic equipment and have revolutionized the world of electronics. Computers, mobile phones and other home appliances are now inextricable parts of the structure of modern societies, made possible by the small size and low cost of ICs such as modern computer processors and microcontrollers. Very-large-scale integration was made practical by technological advancements in semiconductor device fabrication. Since their origins in the 1960s, the size, speed, and capacity of chips have progressed enormously, driven by technical advances that fit more and more transistors on chips of the same size – a modern chip may have many billions of transistors in an area the size of a human fingernail. These advances, roughly following Moore's law, make the computer chips of today possess millions of times the capacity and thousands of times the speed of the computer chips of the early 1970s. ICs have three main advantages over discrete circuits: size, cost and performance. The size and cost is low because the chips, with all their components, are printed as a unit by photolithography rather than being constructed one transistor at a time. Furthermore, packaged ICs use much less material than discrete circuits. Performance is high because the IC's components switch quickly and consume comparatively little power because of their small size and proximity. The main disadvantage of ICs is the high initial cost of designing them and the enormous capital cost of factory construction. This high initial cost means ICs are only commercially viable when high production volumes are anticipated.

  1. microchip

A microchip is a small piece of semiconductor material, often silicon, on which numerous electronic components, such as transistors, capacitors, and resistors, are constructed and integrated. These are designed to perform specific functions such as processing or storing data in electronic devices like computers, phones or even credit cards. The purpose of a microchip is to increase a machine's capabilities while reducing energy consumption and size.

David Linus "Microchip" Lieberman is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics Universe. Created by writer Mike Baron and artist Klaus Janson, he first appeared in The Punisher #4 as an ally of The Punisher for many years. He assisted the Punisher by building weapons, supplying technology and providing friendship, though in more recent publications, Microchip gradually evolved from the Punisher's friend to a bitter villain.

Examples of microchip in a Sentence

  1. Owlstone Medical Billy Boyle:

Historically chemical analyzers take up half the size of a room and cost half a million dollars. So what we've been able to do is use microchip technology to shrink it down from these massive devices to something about the size of a button. And once it's in that form factor, you can build it directly into these disease breathalyzer technologies.

  2. Nasser Alimoda:

Some of the information shared on Facebook and text messages said the COVID-19 vaccine contained a microchip which can be controlled remotely by President Duterte, and once he pushes a button, the person who received the vaccine will die.

  3. Harald Haas:

All we would need to do is to fit a small microchip to every potential illumination device. And this would then combine two basic functionalities: illumination and wireless data transmission, and it's this symbiosis that I personally believe could solve the four essential problems that face us in wireless communication these days. And in the future, you would not only have 14 billion light bulbs, you may have 14 billion Li-Fis deployed worldwide -- for a cleaner, a greener, and even a brighter future.

  4. Dee Vaughn:

COUPLE SEEKS HOMES FOR FOSTER PUPPIES NAMED AFTER TACO BELL MENU ITEMS Fredman brought the dog to KC Pet Project, an animal shelter in Kansas City. The shelter discovered the dog was microchipped and his owner had been looking for him since Monday morning when hedisappeared from a home about a mile away from where he was found, Fox 4 KC reported. Within hours the dog was back home with his family, who is now working hard to find how Max was taken and how he ended up hanging from that box, the shelter wrote on Facebook. Thanks to the quick actions by David and the power of a microchip, we were able to get Max back home safely to his family. Dee Vaughn, Dee Vaughn, said Dee Vaughn got a phone call two hours after Max had disappeared asking if thedog was missing. Dee Vaughn told Fox 4 KCthe dog could not possibly have gone so farin just a couple of hours on his own. Dee Vaughn said Dee Vaughn was horrified when Dee Vaughn saw the photo of Max on the side of an overpass. Literally you could see the imprint around Dee Vaughn neck where they hung Dee Vaughn.
