Hylozoism
Hylozoism is the philosophical point of view that matter is in some sense alive. The theory holds that matter is unified with life or spiritual activity. The term was coined by English philosopher Ralph Cudworth in 1678.

Hylozoism is the philosophical point of view that all matter is in some sense alive. This may include the view that "inanimate" matter has latent powers of abiogenesis, a widely held position in the scientific community. The concept dates to the Milesian school of pre-Socratic philosophers and was introduced in English as a term by Ralph Cudworth in 1678.
