    Covering of cloath originally used to keep off dirt, now added to saddles as ornamental; housings. This word, though used by John Dryden, I do not remember in any other place.

    Etymology: from houseaux, or houses, French.

    Six lions hides, with thongs together fast,
    His upper part defended to his waist;
    And where man ended, the continu’d vest,
    Spread on his back, the houss and trappings of a beast. Dryd.
