Wikipedia
Hesperis matronalis
Hesperis matronalis is an herbaceous plant species in the family Brassicaceae. It has numerous common names, including dame's rocket, damask-violet, dame's-violet, dames-wort, dame's gilliflower, night-scented gilliflower, queen's gilliflower, rogue's gilliflower, summer lilac, sweet rocket, mother-of-the-evening, Good & Plenties, and winter gilliflower. These plants are biennials or short-lived perennials, native to Eurasia and cultivated in many other areas of the world for their attractive, spring-blooming flowers. In some of those areas, it has escaped from cultivation and become a weed species. The genus name Hesperis was probably given because the scent of the flowers becomes more conspicuous towards evening (Hespera is the Greek word for evening).
ChatGPT
hesperis matronalis
Hesperis matronalis, commonly known as dame's rocket, sweet rocket, or evening-scented stock, is a species of flowering plants in the mustard family, Brassicaceae. It is a herbaceous biennial or short-lived perennial plant that grows to 1–1.5 m tall, with large, coarse, serrated green leaves and clusters of fragrant, purple or white, four-petaled flowers that bloom from late spring to early summer. This plant is native to Eurasia and has been introduced to North America, where it has become a common wildflower and is often considered an invasive species. While the plant is attractive and has a sweet fragrance, especially in the evening, its invasive tendencies make it undesirable in many settings.
