  1. hairtail

A hairtail is a type of long, slender, silvery-predatory marine fish found in tropical and temperate parts of the world's oceans. Known for their distinctive slim, ribbon-like bodies and elongated forms, they are also called cutlassfish or ribbonfish. Primarily they are nocturnal hunters and largely predate on smaller fish and squid. Their sometimes spectacular leaps out of the water when hooked have earned them the name of "scabbardfish". The name "hairtail" is derived from the thin, tapering body shape of the fish.
