   GE Global Research is the research and development division of General Electric. GE Global Research's primary facility is located in Niskayuna, New York. The Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center is a satellite facility located in Van Buren, Michigan. GE Software, located in San Ramon, was started in 2011 to act as a "nerve center" for software development within the company. Outside the USA GE Global Research maintains three equally significant laboratories located in Bangalore, Shanghai, and Munich. A fifth center of GE Global Research is to be set up at Rio de Janeiro and is expected to start operations in 2011.
