Wikipedia

  1. e-paper

Electronic paper, also sometimes electronic ink, e-ink or electrophoretic display, are display devices that mimic the appearance of ordinary ink on paper. Unlike conventional flat panel displays that emit light, an electronic paper display reflects ambient light like paper. This may make them more comfortable to read, and provide a wider viewing angle than most light-emitting displays. The contrast ratio in electronic displays available as of 2008 approaches newspaper, and newly (2008) developed displays are slightly better. An ideal e-paper display can be read in direct sunlight without the image appearing to fade. Many electronic paper technologies hold static text and images indefinitely without electricity. Flexible electronic paper uses plastic substrates and plastic electronics for the display backplane. Applications of electronic visual displays include electronic shelf labels and digital signage, bus station time tables, electronic billboards, smartphone displays, and e-readers able to display digital versions of books and magazines.

The four paintings are connected and, fascinatingly enough to me, is doing something that most Italian Baroque painters aren't doing any more in the 17th century. Three months into the lockdown, I realized that the paper money and coins I had in my pocket were the same paper coins and money I'd had in my pocket three months before. 4. Greg Schmidt:

My dad invited Rudy Kalman to give a lecture at Ames, and when he did, Dad had an epiphany, rudy Kalman had written a paper about a theoretical' linear' solution to estimating a vehicle's location and speed. The problem was that this was a fundamentally' nonlinear' problem ; that's like the difference in complexity between floating down a lazy river and going over a waterfall, where your motion becomes chaotic and unpredictable. My dad then developed the equations for how to solve this nonlinear problem -- a major extension of Kalman's work.

  5. Nabarun Dasgupta:

We’re not going to be able to ramp up naloxone distribution in a game-changing way until we get a better handle on the price, there’s the promise on paper versus on the street, and it’s going to come down to the dollars and cents.
