COWD
Cold. A particular pronunciation of cold as used by my late grandma who came from Newcastle-Under-Lyme, which is in Staffordshire, England, and forms part of the locality known as 'The Potteries'.
Its very cowd outside today.
Etymology: Etymology of cold is : Old English cald, of Germanic origin; related to Dutch koud and German kalt, also to Latin gelu ‘frost’. Hypothesis: During the nineteenth century some managers of British pottery firms in The Potteries moved to Dutch pottery firms. Hence, it is not impossible that koud could have been adopted by these managers and their families directly from the Dutch. They could then have brought it back to England with them where cold and koud became mixed to give cowd.
