Wikipedia

  1. counts

Count (feminine: countess) is a historical title of nobility in certain European countries, varying in relative status, generally of middling rank in the hierarchy of nobility. Especially in earlier medieval periods the term often implied not only a certain status, but also that the count had specific responsibilities or offices. The etymologically related English term "county" denoted the territories associated with some countships, but not all. Although the term count was not generally used in England, after the 1066 conquest by the Normans, the European term "count" was the normal translation used for the English title of "earl", and the wives of earls are still referred to as countesses.

Examples of counts in a Sentence

  1. Theodore Roosevelt:

I am delighted to have you play football. I believe in rough, manly sports. But I do not believe in them if they degenerate into the sole end of any one's existence. I don't want you to sacrifice standing well in your studies to any over-athleticism and I need not tell you that character counts for a great deal more than either intellect or body in winning success in life. Athletic proficiency is a mighty good servant, and like so many other good servants, a mighty bad master.

  2. Brendon Rodney:

We’re just showing the world Canada is back and we’re ready to run, i ’m happy for De Grasse. I ’m happy for De Grasse. We’re coming in shape for Rio, and this is when it counts.

  3. Booker T. Washington:

The world cares very little about what a man or woman knows; it is what a man or woman is able to do that counts.

  4. Jay Timmons:

I can't understand why an agency that helps business, creates jobs, provides opportunities for Americana and helps us compete internationally is something that a certain group of Republicans want to take down, it is totally counterintuitive from anything I've ever seen from an elected official who counts on the votes of folks who want those opportunities and jobs at home.

  5. Donald Shinzo:

We have had direct talks, i really believe there's a lot of goodwill. We'll see what happens, as I always say. Because ultimately it's the end result that counts.
