    Biomphalaria is a genus of air-breathing freshwater snails, aquatic pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Planorbidae, the ram's horn snails and their allies.Biomphalaria is the type genus of the tribe Biomphalariini. Taphius is a synonym for Biomphalaria.The shell of this species, like all planorbids is sinistral in coiling, but is carried upside down and thus appears to be dextral.
