Wikipedia

  1. At bat

In baseball, an at bat (AB) or time at bat is a batter's turn batting against a pitcher. An at bat is different from a plate appearance. A batter is credited with a plate appearance regardless of what happens during their turn at bat, but a batter is credited with an at bat only if that plate appearance does not have one of the results enumerated below. While at bats are used to calculate certain statistics, including batting average and slugging percentage, a player can qualify for the season-ending rankings in these categories only if they accumulate 502 plate appearances during the season.

Wikidata

  1. At bat

In baseball, an at bat or time at bat is used to calculate certain statistics, including batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage. It is a more restricted definition of a plate appearance. A batter starts with an at bat every time he faces a pitcher; however, the batter gets "no time at bat" in the following circumstances: ⁕He receives a base on balls. ⁕He is hit by a pitch. ⁕He hits a sacrifice fly or a sacrifice hit. ⁕He is awarded first base due to interference or obstruction, usually by the catcher. ⁕The inning ends while he is still at bat. In this case, the batter will come to bat again in the next inning, though he now has no balls or strikes on him. ⁕He is replaced by another hitter before his at bat is completed. Section 10.02.a.1 of the official rules of Major League Baseball defines an at bat as: "Number of times batted, except that no time at bat shall be charged when a player: hits a sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly; is awarded first base on four called balls; is hit by a pitched ball; or is awarded first base because of interference or obstruction..."

I heard a lot of talk about how we were the underdogs going in and no one was giving us credit, the fact that we came out here and won two games at home right off the bat and then came into this building, which it's a tough building to play in, and the fashion that we won it in, it's pretty incredible.

  2. John Nogowski:

I’ll never let any man talk to me like that. I’m not scared of anyone. Hitters get on first base and do the macarena when they get a broken-bat single. I don’t say anything. If he has a problem with it, I’m right here. I’m 60 feet, 6 inches away.

  3. Michael Beck:

I just love being here with all the fans. I see kids coming here, eight years old, and I go 'How do you even know about this movie,' i found out something today. One of the stunt guys who played one of the Furies, he came up to me and told me, 'Thirty-seven years ago, you broke three of my ribs with a baseball bat.' I told him I was sorry. I didn't mean to.

  4. Trea Turner:

He's a pretty funky guy, i always thought he was a tough at-bat. When you don't get to see him often, he can make it tough on you.

  5. Alex Bregman:

We always talk about passing the torch to the next guy, trying to continue good at-bat after good at-bat, when we do that, I think we’re an extremely good offense.
