Wiktionary
area-denialadjective
Referring to devices, typically weapons, intended to prevent an adversary from occupying or traversing a certain area of land.
An area-denial mine might not kill a soldier, but will severely restrict, slow down, or endanger a tank. Most area-denial weapons can also pose long-lasting risks to anyone also entering the area, specifically to civilians, even years after they were first set up.
Etymology: area + denial
Wikipedia
area-denial
An area denial weapon is a defensive device used to prevent an adversary from occupying or traversing an area of land, sea or air. The specific method used does not have to be totally effective in preventing passage (and sometimes is not) as long as it is sufficient to severely restrict, slow down, or endanger the opponent. Some area denial weapons pose long-lasting risks to anyone entering the area, specifically to civilians, and thus are often controversial. An area denial weapon can be part of an anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) strategy.

Examples of area-denial in a Sentence
What you will have done is take enormous capability off the table if you go with the requirements that they are locking in now. What you will be locking into is something that is a little more than a high-class surveillance vehicle that will fly over our aircraft carriers for 20 to 30 years down the road, many people feel we need to have something that is more integrated into the air wing if we are going to keep our carriers viable and if we are going to get through A2/AD defenses (anti-access/area-denial).
