SiBeam
SiBEAM Inc., now a subsidiary of Silicon Image, was a fabless semiconductor company that developed high-speed wireless communication technology, using millimeter waves. The company was based in Sunnyvale and San Diego, California. SiBEAM was founded in 2004 by researchers in wireless communications from the University of California, Berkeley and strategic backers including Panasonic, Samsung, Cisco Systems, and Best Buy. The company raised over $112 million of venture capital financing from U.S. Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates, Foundation Capital, and Lux Capital in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2010. SiBEAM was developing millimeter wave technologies for high-bandwidth services. A founding member of the WirelessHD Consortium, SiBEAM’s first products are based on the WirelessHD 1.0 specification. The company's Omnilink60-based WirelessHD integrated circuits were used for wireless high-definition digital video display, without compression or buffering. SiBEAM was noted by several publications as one of the promising startup companies in its industry. SiBEAM was acquired by Silicon Image in April 2011 for $25.5 million in cash and Silicon Image stock.
